Patrick Miceli ~ Statement
Over the past several years, as the scope of my work evolved from more traditional forms, such as painting, into installations, it also grew larger. I found it necessary to invite others to help fabricate and assemble the work. Along with the help of others came their creative influence. As a result of this experience, I designed two projects that use the collaborative process as their creative backbone.
The first of the two collaborative projects use two life-size line drawings (96"x42"). One is based on the image of G.I. Joe a soldier figure holding a gun) and the other on the image of Barbie (a shapely female figure). Using a stencil to reproduce the images, artists are invited to pick one or the other and over a period of six to eight weeks, paint, collage, and/or alter the image in any way they choose. The altered images are then collected to be used as elements in a larger scale installation.

The second project operates similarly. This project is smaller in scale than the first (16"x20") and uses only one image, a line drawing of a heart.

Both projects are ongoing and artists are invited to participate.
